William Hayter

William H. Hayter, 91, of Wappingers Falls, passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at Vassar Bros. Medical Center. He was born in Bayonne, N.J. on December 21, 1923, the son of William George Hayter and Florence Mae Barron. On June 21, 1947, he married Eleanor Dzamba, who survives at home. Mr. Hayter was employed at IBM, Poughkeepsie for 30 years as an Engineer. Earlier, he had worked as a journeyman apprentice for the RCA Service Co.,and as a Television technician.Mr. Hayter worked on a computer that was sent to the moon from Kennedy Space Center. He could repair anything electrical, and developed the Atlanta Inter airport automated passenger ticketing system. Mr. Hayter was active in the Boy Scouts, served in the U.S. Navy from ’43 to ’46 aboard the USS New Mexico as an electrican’s mate. He also attended the Center for Lifetime Studies at Marist College. Survivors, in addition to his wife, are children, Carol Bomba of Connecticutt, Elaine Calabro of Wappingers Falls, William Hayter and Elizabeth of Hyde Park, Bruce Hayter of Wappingers Falls, and Melissa Taylor of Wappingers Falls, 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, a brother, Fred Hayter of Mooresville, N.C., and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Vera Kolakowski. Friends may call at the Delehanty Funeral Home 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, Thursday from 6 to 9 PM.
