Hugo passed away on June 11, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was
truly loved and will be greatly missed.
Hugo VonBurg was born December 24, 1938 at Lennox Hill Memorial Hospital in Flushing, N.Y.C.
His parents were Hugo Roland VonBurg and Hilda Claire Rollie VonBurg. His parents
immigrated to the United States from Bethloch, Switzerland in 1932.
He attended St. Luke’s Elementary School in White Stone, Queens and later P.S.# 184
He later attended Bayside High School before moving to Wappingers Falls, N.Y. Hugo and his
twin brother, William graduated from Wappingers Central High School in 1957.
Hugo and his family moved permantly to Wappingers Falls in 1950 where the family
raised beef on a farm on Route 9.
Hugo worked for many years with Edgar Popper at Popper Electric Co. in Wappingers Falls
before joining the U.S. Navy and was discharged honorably from the Navy in 1966.
Hugo married Brenda Lorraine Diehl, daughter of Louis and Katherine Diehl on August 31,
1963 at St. Marys Church, Wappingers Falls. Hugo has been an active communicant
of St. Marys Church for over 60 years.
After leaving the navy, Hugo worked for A.T.& T., later New York Telephone and finally
Verizon for a total of 31 years. He was also well known and loved working locally as a electrical
contractor for over 52 years.
Hugo is a member of the Wappingers Knights of Columbus #1646, Dutchess County Electrical Contractors
Association, and the Mt. Alvernia Third Order lay Franciscans. He has been a long time
memberof the Beacon Boat Club, a member of Germania Hall in Poughkeepsie, and the St. Marys Respect
Life Society.
Hugo is survived by his wife, Brenda Lorraine (Diehl) and four children: Catherine Maria
Von Burg Friedman and spouse Michael, Susan Rolane VonBurg Brought and spouse Eric,
Hugo Roland (Chip) VonBurg and spouse Korce, and Sara Elizabeth VonBurg Jedlicka and spouse Robert.
Hugo is survived by his grandchildren of whom he was extremely proud; Elizabeth R. Brought,
step grandson Jay M. Friedman, Michael E. Brought, Liam F. VonBurg Derieux, Ethan R.
VonBurg Derieux, Hudson E. VonBurg Friedman, Matthew B. VonBurg Jedlicka, and Ashlynn
G. VonBurg Jedlicka.
Hugo is also survived by a twin brother, William Francis VonBurg who lives in Tampa, Fla. He is also survived
by a sister Sylvia Marie VonBurg Fridel of San Sabastion, Fla. Hugo is also survived
by many longtime and dear friends and associates. Many thanks to Dr. Schneider for all his
compassionate care.
Friends may call at the Delehanty Funeral Home 64 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls, thursday
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Marys Church,
Clinton St., Wappingers Falls. Burial St. Marys Cemetery.
